okay, the problem is that i hate wearing makeup, especially casually (aka not for themed parties or costumes). i never learned how to do it nicely, it makes me feel self conscious, and i end up touching my face lot without realizing it, which ruins it. is there any way to look goth casually (other than dressing the part) that doesn’t involve makeup? i just wanna be able to convey to others that i’m a creature of the night 😔
i realize this might be a silly question, but any advice for the subject in general still helps! im slowly working on building up my closet and learning how to mod clothes, i just get impatient LOL

Yes!! so many ways! You can experiment with hair, only use a tiny little bit of mascara, with earrings. They sell some face stickers that you can add to give a pop to the face without it being makeup really and if you touch it they at worst will just fall, no biggie!! you can also shave (never tweeze!!!!) your eyebrows into different shapes (Studied have proved they grow back the same) and see what works best for you! Lip tints are awesome bcs you can apply them in the morning and just have the rest of the day with colored lips but no real lipstick

I know sooo many goths that loathe makeup, and when all the people you see have elaborate makeup it's hard to think "goth" without makeup! It's not a silly question at all you're all good!
Okay first big thing I'd recommend is HAIR. LOTS AND LOTS OF HAIR. There are so many ways to style hair of all kinds to be seen as gothic! Teasing is obviously peoples first go to, and once you learn how to do it it is really so easy! If you wanted to go the teasing route I would so highly recommend you get a teasing/rat comb, it will save you so much time. I got mine at my local grocery store for maybe like 10? Bucks? (usd) Somewhere in there, and it also came with a teasing brush that I love!! Literally my best friend. There are tons of videos on YouTube that explain teasing, but if you want I can also share my personal favorite techniques!
Still on hair but not (as much) teasing, faux deathhawks are one of my favorites! They can be kinda tricky sometimes, but they are still so much fun. You basically use hair clips and small hair ties to pin you hair in a mowhawk kinda shape, with a little light teasing (for texture) and a whooolllee lotta hairspray you'll have crazy silly hair in no time <3
If you have shorter hair, one of the styles I wore like, almost all through high-school was just to put a little mousse in my hair for a disheveled look, and then use gel to spike some of the ends out! Took me like 6-7 to do my hair in the morning and it was still goth!
Clothes wise you really don't need much, if you are just starting to build up your wardrobe I'd say the essentials are 1) graphic tees 2) black pants 3) one long maxi skirt 4) one mid length skirt 5) and a black men's dress shirt. The world can literally be yours. You really don't need all that much to look goth, the best gothic outfits have the same base pieces. How I like to do it, is even if I am wearing the same outfit, I can still make it different with my hair and jewelry.
If you had wanted to try out makeup, I would sooo recommend a cheap eyeliner pencil from the dollar store. Lots of days I don't feel like putting on a whole bunch so I just smudge a little eyeliner underneath my lashes and I'm DONE. It's really not invasive or annoying to wear, plus it wont melt off when I start sweating in the summer (like now lol). I like to do my makeup but I hate feeling it on my face!!! So I totally get you on this. I only ever put on full "goth" makeup for special occasions these days.

It's so easy and a good way to get the freak look without much else going on!

thank you guys so much!!! i’ve teased my hair before but i have a lot of it and it takes a while to do so i don’t do it often, but i definitely wanna practice more so i know how to do it quicker and easier! experimenting with my hair is a little hard for me since i’ve also never been particularly good at styling it, but im growing it out so i def wanna play around with it. and i’ll definitely keep in mind the eyebrows and minimal face decal tips! these are all such a big help
